<a href="#comment-8834" rel="nofollow">@esmealda </a>
I had the same problem today,
I ran avast anti virus boot scan, which takes about 2 hours and it dug 4 trojans out of my p.c.
followed by a registry scan,
and it cured the Data execution problem on ie8.
The funny thing was when I tried to reinstall my McAfee anti virus it came striate back,it would seem McAfee have some explaining to do.

Same as @melanie here (IE 8, Windows 7 x86). The box is grayed out and the "Internet Options" dialog won't let me uncheck the option. This is not really a big disruption, as I have the policy of avoiding using IE as a browser and staying mostly with Firefox, but occasionally some sites or circumstances force me to use IE.

I tried to run IE with all add-ons disabled (there is an icon for this under Accessories - System Tools) but the same error happened. So, in spite of what the error message says, the problem does not seem to be related to any add-on.

I suspect that in my case the problem has to do with the emergency security patch that Microsoft released in mid-January 2010, out of its normal Windows Update schedule. The problem didn't happen before that, and I hadn't used IE after that until now. MS had to rush with that patch to respond to growing pressure from the public and the press (the security flaw was supposed to have enabled the highly publicized hacking of Google, Adobe and other companies). I remember that one of the mitigation measures MS suggested before releasing the patch was turning DEP on, and now it can't be disabled.

If it is really so, we will have to wait until the next "Patch Tuesday" (which should be February 9, 2010) and hope that MS releases a fix then. :-(

Yesterday I also had two "performance enhancement" Windows Updates whose installation failed. It may or may not have to do with the problem, and if so, IE's problem may have caused the failed installs or the other way around. With any other program, the first thing to do would be trying to reinstall it, but one can't do that with IE 8 on Windows 7, as it is part of the system itself (Vista had the same limitation with IE 7). I feel so helpless! :-(

This worked for me, but I'm using XP. The same commands might work for your OS:

I tried the workaround for this issues that was suggested by Pawan, but it will not let me uncheck the box. I have this problem on normal websites that I visit but it doesn't close the windows. It happens constantly and is very annoying. I don't have any toolbars installed. What else can I do to fix this? Thank you for your help.

It's not toolbars or addons or anything, its a bug for sure. Sometimes I just get a DEP error and a tab will close on a normal site that has absolutely nothing wrong with it, other times I get a tab crash in mshtml.dll for no apparent reason. I do suspect it is because of using the InPrivate Filtering feature, mshtml.dll must have a memory leak or some crap with it.

Thanks Pawan. Mine does DEP when I exit IE8. Mostly use FF.

For PaPaJack, goto http: //babelfish . yahoo . com [take out the spaces of course]
Translate French to English
Copy Hang Fasel's post to text, then click translate. You get this...
"You made good points there. I made a research on the subject and found the majority of people will be of agreement with your blog."
